My family could be described by many words, but “normal” is not one of them. If you came to our wedding, you know from Fr. Barth’s homily that Bob and I are no exception. So many people I know complain about their siblings, their parents, their in-laws, and I know that a lot of it is supposed to be funny. When I hear people make negative jokes about their families, though, I feel so sad. No family is perfect, but love covers over a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8). This Thanksgiving, I am grateful for the unconditional love of my family, on both sides — who support me, play with me, feed me, teach me, and love me despite my flaws.
